    Kirkland Bray.

Excellent works by New York City artist Kirkland Bray.

Bray says of his work, “most of what I create contains a found element — a painting on some vintage, partially dyed canvas or a collage on an oxidized page from an old book. In addition to the process of recycling old materials, my intention is to explore ideas like oversharing vs. privacy and perceptions of reality in modern life. Surrealistic landscapes painted on discarded wooden drawers are carefully cluttered with an obnoxious number of humans. Vintage paper and patterns are meticulously cut and arranged into a deconstructed chair collage. Collecting materials is just as important as making the artwork, with the objective being to redeem something beautiful from something discarded.”

A number of these pieces are from “Undisclosed Locations,” Bray’s first solo exhibition on view at Calico Gallery in Brooklyn.
